All of our candles are produced using palm oil wax, which is a 100% natural product.

Palm oil is extracted from the the fruit (or kernel) of the oil palm tree.

The growing of oil palm, which is one of the major plantation crops of SE Asia, provides a natural, environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to oil based materials.

Its use as a fuel is gaining popularity as new technologies are being developed to efficiently use palm oil derivatives.

Supporting Local Farmers

Oil palm is one of the most efficient plantation crops in terms of yield and initial growing period.

The average oil palm tree takes up to 2 years to start producing the fruit, which are then harvested for the palm oil.

In general, a single tree can produce for up to 20 years before the trees are felled and the land replanted.

The other main plantation crop, which grows within the same geographical areas, is rubber.

Natural rubber takes between 5 – 7 years before the tree can be tapped for its latex. In addition, the harvesting and general management of rubber requires up to 5 times more labour than oil palm.

The benefits of producing palm oil for the small, independent farmers is therefore significant.

Palm Oil Wax Candles

The wax used in our candles is a product of palm oil, which is extracted from the oil palm fruit bunches.

In addition to it being a far more environmentally friendly alternative to the standard paraffin based candles, palm oil wax also offers other benefits:

Palm oil wax candles are virtually drip-free

It generally burns with a soot free flame

Palm oil wax candles burn with a brighter flame

Palm oil wax can hold on average 2 times more fragrance than paraffin or soy candles

Burn times for palm oil wax candles are 10-20% longer than the average soy candle
